Blessings, and Curses...

Ok, I'm sorry, it has been a while since I last posted a blog.  However, Team Glenney (The name that Jenn gave us, a while back.) has been busy living life the Team Glenney way.

My birthday week has come and gone.  I started the weekend on Friday afternoon with the Runners Expo for the Cox Providence Rhode Races at Rhode Island Convention Center on Friday May 4th.
I turned 43 years old on May 5, 2012, and celebrated at home with my Soulmate, Jennifer by my side, after the Cox Rhode Races 5K in Roger Williams Park, in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island.  I ran the race with a gun time of 33:06, and a net time of 32:35 (That is a 10 minute and 30 second per mile pace for the length of the 3.1 mile course.)  It was a very hilly course, but well worth the effort.  With a 5pm start, I came in 116 out of 176 males, 24th of 33 in my age group, and 214th overall out of 460 runners.  All in all, I enjoyed this race, and definitely will do it again.

A few weeks passed, and it was now time for another race.  This time with an 11am Sunday start here in my new Hometown of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  I ran the Navigant Credit Union Cherry Tree Running Festival 5K (Try to say that with a mouth full.  LOL) with a gun time of 31:17.3, a net time of 30:53.5 and was 29th of 47 in my age group, and 149th of 395 overall.  So, with 2 races under my belt in Lil Rhody, I have improved my time by a little over a minute and a half, and decreased my pace from 10 minutes 30 seconds to a little under 10 minutes at 9:58 per mile for a 5K course.

As well as the running, Jenn and I have been enjoying baseball at McCoy Stadium here in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  Yes, we are fans of the PawSox!  For a little background information, Jenn and I both work third shift.  She works here in Pawtucket, and I work up in Woonsocket, RI.  So, I drop her off, on the nights that we work together by 10:30pm.  And then I drive approximately 25 minutes up the Road, to clock in by 11pm, in Woonsocket.  In the morning, I get off somewhere around 7am, and drive back to Pawtucket to pick Jenn up around 8am.  So, as you can imagine, we are both busy, as she works 5 to 7 days, with one or two days off, and I work 4 days a week with 3 days off, in between.  As a result, we have one Wednesday off, together, which we call Team Glenney Wednesdays.  At the beginning of the baseball season, Jenn and I got tickets to the 4 games that fall on these days.

Here is where it gets interesting.  Our first game was on April 25th with a 12:05pm start this game was cold, but we stayed for the whole time, and the PawSox lost by a score of 6-8, after having been on a team record 9 game winning streak.  On our next Team Glenney Wednesday PawSox night, on May 9, 2012 it was rainy and cold so we didn't go, and the PawSox won by a score of 5-2.  That was night game with a 6:15 start, and we would have been out in the open with no shelter.  Then last night, which was an anniversary of sorts for us, we went to the PawSox night game with a 7:05pm start.  It was also cold, and we meant to bring a blanket but left it at home.  As a result we left the game during the 5th Inning with the PawSox losing by a score of 5-4, but they eventually won by a score of 6-5.

So, I'm wondering is there a "Glenney Curse" or what?  We go to the first game, sit the entire game, and the PawSox lose.  We skip the second game and the PawSox win.  While we are at third game the PawSox are loosing, but after we left they won the game.  So, what will the outcome be of the 4th game of the Team Glenney series be on July 18, 2012?  Will we stay the entire time, and break the curse with a PawSox win?  Anyways, whatever happens, we will be there, even if just for the first pitch, as it is PawSox Cap Night, and I collect baseball hats!

So, that's it in a nutshell.  From Pawtucket, Rhode Island, running and gunning, and driving them up and in, in Woonsocket on the overnight shift.  This is Lucky Bill, saying, "God Bless each and everyone of you."  Jenn and I are getting married in 52 more days, and we're counting them down, in a small beach ceremony surrounded by a few of our closest friends, and co-workers and others in Spirit, and I'll be smiling from ear to ear, because my Jenn is going to make me the HAPPIEST MAN ON THE EARTH.  I love you, Jenn!!!

Oh one more thing, we will be Honeymooning in Washington, D.C., and this Republican hopes to see a session of Congress while he's there.  Thank you, Rep. David Cicilline!

Spring has sprung in Little Rhody...

Spring has arrived here in Little Rhody.  I am loving my new home more and more with the passing days.  As a matter of fact, I am getting so acclimated to life in Rhode Island that you probably won't even see me referencing it as my "new" home much anymore, since I am starting to feel like I have been here forever, even though I sometimes marvel at the fact that I am here at all.  (Thank you Jenn for having me be a part of your life, and thereby introducing me to the beautiful state of Rhode Island.  Although, I sometimes call it Rhode-achusetts, since it seems that we do almost as much stuff in nearby Massachusetts, as we do in Rhode Island.)

I have used this move to Rhode Island as an opportunity to start fresh with my life.  Yes, I still incorporate many of the things I love in this "new" life, but I have renewed my commitment to leading a healthier, happier life with my Fiancee, Jenn.  We both joined Weight Watchers, and the gym.  And I have renewed my commitment to running.  I look forward to doing my first 5K in Rhode Island on my 43rd birthday, May 5th, the Cox Providence Rhode Races 5K.  I took that weekend off from work so I can fully immerse myself in the experience.  I will attend the Health/Running Expo at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI on Friday May 4th, run in the 5K on Saturday May 5th, and then Jenn and I are volunteering with the Marathon on Sunday May 6th.  I am really looking forward to it, since I have only been involved with one other Marathon, the Walt Disney World Marathon in 1995, and that one didn't have a Health Expo, or at least I didn't know about it.

Another new experience that I will be doing in the next few weeks is attending my first Pawtucket Red Sox baseball game on April 24th.  Jenn got us tickets for the PawSox game a few days ago, and I am really excited to see my first Minor League game in Rhode Island.  Actually, it is the first Triple A game I have ever been to, since I never did make it to a Clearwater Threshers (Philadelphia Phillies Triple A team in Clearwater, FL.) while I lived in Florida.  Strange, since I went to two Philadelphia Phillies Spring Training games, and a Tampa Bay Rays game while I lived there.  I always intended on making it to a Minor League game, since there are more than a dozen MLB teams that have Triple A teams in the Central Florida area, but I just figured, as with many things, that I was always going to live in Florida and therefore had plenty of time to see things.  Anyhow, getting back to my original thought, I am excited about going to a PawSox game with my Sweetie.

Jenn, and I have also started attending church every Sunday.  We found a wonderful church in Smithfield, RI called New Life Worship Center.  So far we have really enjoyed the services, and each week it seems like the Pastor, or Special Guest Speaker, is talking directly to us.  Jenn is constantly saying, "Pastor Steve told us to trust God for that."  She wants to start going to the Bi-weekly Life Groups, too.

Ok, this blog was more informal than some that I have written in the past.  However, it is my blog, and this is how it flowed this time around.

Until next time.  Enjoy yourself, and When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade.

Here I sit at the computer, staring at the screen, reading other peoples' blogposts, and trying to come up with a post of my own. Well, I got tired of just trying and decided to write whatever came out.

I have been busy getting acclimated to my new home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, for almost a month now. I finally got back to work after a few weeks off, and love my new workplace. (Still work for the same company. Just in a different city, and state.) Speaking of my new workplace, I love to say the name of the town that I work in, Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Woooooonsocket! LOL

I have been enjoying getting to see new places, and eat at new restaurants, etc. Jenn has been great, showing me all these new places. I did find the nearest Starbucks to my new workplace, on my own, though. Although, even that was partially made possible by the GPS that Jenn, and our zoo bought me for Christmas. (Not the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence. Our zoo of animals. If you don't understand, read my post from last month. LOL) Anyhow, the closest Starbucks to Wooooonsocket is in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Someday soon, I will have to visit the Starbucks in Providence, though.

This whole acclimation process has been fun. I even get a thrill out of going grocery shopping, because it is fairly new to me in the sense that it is not only me going to new stores, but also me shopping with Jenn, instead of the shopping for myself alone that I have done for many years. One thing to note about the shopping, though. We have decided that shopping on the first of the month is not advisable, if at all avoidable. Everyone and their brother was at Pricerite, since they all got their foodstamps, that day. OMG, we must have stood in line for over an hour, and possibly two hours to pay for our groceries. Thank God we got enough to last us for a while, though. And then we went shopping for pet food, and various other items at Walmart, today. Even they were a little busy with foodstamp shoppers. However, not even a tenth as busy as Pricerite the day before. (For those of you that don't know, Pricerite is a low price grocery store similar to Sav A Lot.)

Well, I am going to try to post on this blog more often. I do like to write, even though you couldn't tell from the lack of posts here. I guess the thing is that I am frustrated, right now, because it doesn't seem like anyone is reading these posts, as I am my only Follower here. So, come on people, leave me some comments. That will encourage me to write some more, and as I write more, trust me, my writing style is awesome, if I must say so myself. LOL

Signing off for now,

Bill

Back to the Great White North

January 5, 2012 I started a new chapter in my life. After having called Ocala, Florida my home for 30 years, I moved to Pawtucket, Rhode Island to make a new home with my girlfriend, Jenn. (Between the two of us we have a zoo. There is my cat, Muneca, her dog, Rufie, her cat, Fiona, our foster cat, Mr. Whiskers, and her two Guinea Pigs, Albert, and Patches.) I look forward to the many adventures that this move will bring about, and look forward to the life that I will live with Jenn by my side. Already, in my first two days back in the Great White North (I was born in Philadelphia, and lived in Lower Bucks County, PA until I was 12 years old.) I have had two firsts. I arrived for the first time, ever, in Rhode Island on Wednesday, and on Thursday we went shopping in South Attleboro, Mass. Two days. Two States. Two firsts.

The strange thing is, I had stated on numerous occasions that I would never leave Ocala. I love that city, and many things about it. However, God brought Jenn into my life, and opened a whole new world of opportunities for the both of us. And so, here I am back in the Great White North.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is to embrace life, and all it has in store for you, and never say never, because there may be something, or someone, around the corner that will make you change the way you look at things. Then that thing you said you would never do will be done.

Well, folks, until next time...

Have a Happy New Year, and love like you've never loved before.
